I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year with your family and friends!
And now it is January and back to work. 🙂
I saw a great quote online this morning from Judy Blume, author of Junie B Jones books. She said, “I’m a rewriter. That’s the part I like best . . . once I have a pile of paper to work with, it’s like having the pieces of a puzzle. I just have to put the pieces together to make a picture.”
Rewriting is where I’m at with my YA novel. Finishing writing is where I’m at with my current MG. But since I just finished the tentative afternoon schedule for the 2014 Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers conference coming in June, Blume’s quote made me think of WIFYR and Cheri Earl’s afternoon session on learning why Blume’s books are great and using that to improve our own writing.
The WIFYR schedule will be up on their website http://www.wifyr.com/ soon and registration will open next week. I am so excited! It is a great writing conference and such a good deal for what is offered. For instance, the afternoon only sessions early bird price is $105–that is for 11 sessions with a score of presenters (including an editor and three agents) to choose from, plus the free Thursday events–so that works out to less than $10 per session. If you’re a children’s book writer or illustrator–or would like to be one– this is a great opportunity!
I hope a ton of people attend!
