As those of you who have read a few chapters of Timeweavers know, Jane and I have a scene early on that involves a vast expanse of very tall grass. Since Utah is a desert region, irrigation is a must and water is an important commodity. People are always trying to conserve water. One of the latest things here is to landscape with ornamental grasses. This year, I’ve noticed several types that grow to 3 1/2 or 4 feet tall. They are mostly planted in neat rows with a little space between each clump.
I was driving my son to an appointment in mid-October when we passed a type of grass I hadn’t seen before. These clumps may have started as the 3 1/2 – 4 foot tall variety, but these soared way above my head. They are the visual reality of the scene from Jane’s and my book. Just imagine a huge expanse of these tall plants, without spaces inbetween, then you’ll have an idea of what we had in mind.
